Les contrebasses s&#39;intercalent entre chacune des incantations et accentuent le caract&egrave;re grave de cet exorde. Le th&egrave;me du film fait ensuite son apparition. Expression pleine de sobri&eacute;t&eacute; du caract&egrave;re &eacute;pique et tragique de l&#39;aventure qui va d&eacute;filer devant nos yeux. Il est repris rapidement au son d&#39;un violon chinois (&eacute;coutez la bande annonce fran&ccedil;aise &agrave; 1&#39;07) avant de d&eacute;voiler sa deuxi&egrave;me partie, un &eacute;lan romantique dans le plus pur style du compositeur, un de ses &eacute;lans que nous ch&eacute;rissons et que nous guettons &agrave; chaque nouvelle partition (bande annonce fran&ccedil;aise &agrave; 1&#39;20). L&#39;arriv&eacute;e en Mongolie donne lieu &agrave; un passage musical m&ecirc;lant synth&eacute;tiseurs et instruments traditionnels. C&#39;est quasiment l&#39;unique apparition de l&#39;aspect folklorique dans cette nouvelle grande partition symphonique de James Horner. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">[divider]Le loup&nbsp;: une cr&eacute;ature crainte et ve\u0301ne\u0301re\u0301e[\/divider]<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">Lorsque Chen Zhen d&eacute;cide de s&#39;aventurer en dehors des chemins conseill&eacute;s, il tombe nez &agrave; nez avec la meute de loup de la r&eacute;gion. L&#39;angoisse est mat&eacute;rialis&eacute;e par des &eacute;l&eacute;ments synth&eacute;tiques &agrave; la mani&egrave;re de la premi&egrave;re partie de <em>Revenge<\/em> dans <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/discographie\/braveheart\/\"><strong>Braveheart<\/strong><\/a> (1995), quand William Wallace se dirige lentement vers le fort anglais du village apr&egrave;s l&#39;assassinat de Murron. R&eacute;f&eacute;rence judicieuse car les deux hommes sont &agrave; cheval et avancent vers le danger. Les apparitions successives des loups de plus en plus nombreux face au jeune homme font monter la tension. Le synth&eacute;tique laisse place &agrave; une brillante atonalit&eacute; orchestrale. L&#39;ombre de Gy&ouml;rgy Ligeti (qui rappelons-le fut le professeur de James Horner) planerait presque sur cette sc&egrave;ne o&ugrave; la mort semble promise au personnage, comme pour la deuxi&egrave;me partie de <em>Ambush<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/discographie\/clear-and-present-danger\/\"><strong>Clear and Present Danger<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; 1994) ou le final de <em>Death of Titanic<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/discographie\/titanic\/\"><strong>Titanic<\/strong><\/a> -1997). Heureusement, Chen Zhen est &eacute;pargn&eacute; par la meute et l&#39;esprit de la steppe. Il vit alors un moment spirituel au travers d&#39;une vision dans le ciel. Cet instant magique, illustr&eacute; par les cordes et les synth&eacute;tiseurs, nous renvoie par exemple aux derni&egrave;res notes de <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/discographie\/field-of-dreams\/\"><strong>Field of Dreams<\/strong><\/a> (1989), lors du plan final o&ugrave; la cam&eacute;ra monte dans le ciel en r&eacute;v&eacute;lant les traits lumineux dessin&eacute;s dans l&#39;obscurit&eacute; par les phares des automobiles qui se rendent au terrain de Base-Ball.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">La sc&egrave;ne suivante d&eacute;voile l&rsquo;observation des loups par Chen Zhen et Bilig, l&#39;ancien de la brigade, lors d&#39;une partie de chasse. Les mammif&egrave;res carnassiers guettent le moment appropri&eacute; pour attaquer des gazelles. Des mouvements lents de cordes symbolisent l&#39;attente. Avec l&#39;approche de l&#39;assaut, les cordes s&#39;activent accompagn&eacute;es des percussions. Puis elles se font vivaces et virevoltantes lors de la ru&eacute;e des loups vers leurs proies. L&#39;&eacute;nergie d&eacute;gag&eacute;e par ces cordes est similaire &agrave; celle rencontr&eacute;e dans <em>To The Roof<\/em> de John Powell (<strong>The Bourne Supremacy<\/strong><em> &ndash;<\/em> 2004). <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/wolftotem_louveteau.jpg\" style=\"width: 300px; height: 169px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; box-shadow: 2px 2px 5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); float: left; margin: 5px 10px;\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;\">La mise &agrave; mort des louveteaux ordonn&eacute;e par l&rsquo;autorite\u0301 centrale donne lieu &agrave; deux sc&egrave;nes &eacute;prouvantes que James Horner illustre tr&egrave;s pudiquement. Pour la premi&egrave;re, le trio intimiste harpe, flute et cordes est &agrave; l&#39;honneur. Puis lors de la seconde sc&egrave;ne, quand la mort des louveteaux est provoqu&eacute;e involontairement par Chen Zhen, James Horner d&eacute;ploie un th&egrave;me sentimental d&eacute;chirant. Les cordes charg&eacute;es de tristesse d&eacute;noncent l&#39;injustice li&eacute;e aux massacres de ces petits &ecirc;tres innocents. <\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">[divider]Temp&ecirc;te et d&eacute;solation[\/divider]<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">Neuf minutes&nbsp;! C&#39;est la dur&eacute;e de ce morceau gargantuesque d&eacute;peignant la temp&ecirc;te de neige qui se d&eacute;roule au milieu du film. La neige, un lac gel&eacute;&#8230; la r&eacute;f&eacute;rence &agrave; <strong>Alexander Nevski<\/strong> de Sergei Prokofiev semblait s&#39;imposer plus que jamais. James Horner la propose donc une nouvelle fois mais comme toujours avec les principes qui lui sont chers et qui caract&eacute;risent son &oelig;uvre&nbsp;: respect, continuit&eacute; et progressivit&eacute;. Ainsi la reprise se veut-elle subtile, parfaitement absorb&eacute;e dans son discours et non redondante. Des cuivres funestes annoncent la catastrophe &agrave; venir sur un plan surr&eacute;aliste de deux chevaux parcourant l&#39;horizon. La temp&ecirc;te de neige fait rage au son d&#39;une r&eacute;miniscence fort logique de <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/discographie\/the-perfect-storm\/\"><strong>The Perfect Storm<\/strong><\/a> (2000). Puis la cavalcade des cordes et des cuivres s&#39;&eacute;lance sur deux longues minutes avant une l&eacute;g&egrave;re accalmie qui laissera vite sa place &agrave; des obsessionnels ostinatos de cordes, &agrave; une reprise du th&egrave;me du film sous un mode h&eacute;ro&iuml;que et d&eacute;sesp&eacute;r&eacute;. La fin percussive du morceau ach&egrave;ve l&#39;auditeur et l&#39;am&egrave;ne vers une &eacute;ni&egrave;me variation du motif &agrave; quatre notes. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">[divider]La chasse aux loups[\/divider]<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">Apr&egrave;s ce morceau d&#39;anthologie, la musique propose quelques passages plus doux qui d&eacute;veloppent la relation de Chen Zhen avec son loup. Le th&egrave;me principal peut alors s&#39;&eacute;panouir &agrave; l&#39;image de ce petit loup qui ne demande qu&#39;&agrave; grandir. Ce sont les derniers moments d&rsquo;insouciance car les cuivres et les cordes tragiques viennent rappeler la menace qui p&egrave;se sur et &agrave; cause de la meute de loup. En effet, par manque de nourriture, elle se rapproche in&eacute;vitablement des zones habit&eacute;es et du b&eacute;tail.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/wolftotem_lake.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 405px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; box-shadow: 2px 2px 5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">La cons&eacute;quence directe est une attaque nocturne d&#39;un troupeau d&#39;ailleurs amplifi&eacute;e par de sombres trombones et de subversifs ostinatos de cordes, v&eacute;ritables incarnations du caract&egrave;re destructeur de la meute.dans la chasse aux loups. Ainsi un mouvement touchant de cordes accompagne la fin d&#39;un couple de loups qui pr&eacute;f&egrave;re se suicider plut&ocirc;t que de mourir sous les balles. Puis la poursuite du chef de meute offre selon nous l&#39;un des morceaux les plus incroyables du compositeur. Les mots ne sont pas assez forts ou pr&eacute;cis pour exprimer les diff&eacute;rents &eacute;tats &eacute;motionnels cr&eacute;es par les trois tableaux musicaux qui se succ&egrave;dent au cours de ces six minutes incroyables&nbsp;: la tension, la peur, la col&egrave;re, l&rsquo;h&eacute;ro&iuml;sme, l&#39;&eacute;pique, la compassion, la tristesse, le recueillement. Planant et transper&ccedil;ant.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">Le final est du m&ecirc;me niveau. Un solo de cor majestueux enclenche l&#39;ultime et vibrante variation du th&egrave;me principal qui se d&eacute;ploie sur plusieurs minutes nous r&eacute;v&eacute;lant ainsi tout son pouvoir &eacute;motionnel. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">[divider]For Greater Glory, Pas de Deux, Wolf Totem[\/divider]<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px;\">Voici un magnifique trio qui nous confirme que la sensibilit&eacute; musicale de James Horner s&#39;exprime aujourd&#39;hui sans contrainte et sans limite. Son style si personnel, son romantisme &agrave; fleur de peau semblent s&#39;exprimer en totale libert&eacute;. De ces partitions se d&eacute;gage une impression de libert&eacute; artistique et donc de sinc&eacute;rit&eacute;. Comme si le compositeur &eacute;tait totalement d&eacute;barrass&eacute; des contraintes li&eacute;s aux d&eacute;sirs des producteurs. Face &agrave; ce d&eacute;chainement d&#39;&eacute;motions musicales il est bien difficile de faire la fine bouche et d&#39;&ecirc;tre d&eacute;&ccedil;u.
