\n\t\tSalué par la critique à sa sortie en 1987 pour son intelligence et ses éléments d’anticipation, Projet X<\/strong><\/a> réalisé par Jonathan Kaplan fut également reconnu pour la partition fabuleuse de James Horner qui signe la même année la musique de Miracle sur la 8ème<\/sup> rue<\/strong> (*Batteries Not Included<\/a>.) Projet X<\/strong> raconte le voyage intérieur du caporal Jimmy Garrett (Matthew Broderick), pilote de l’US Air Force qui va être amené à choisir entre son devoir et sa conscience. Après une suspension de vol, Garrett est assigné à un projet militaro-scientifique, le projet X, pour lequel il doit superviser des chimpanzés contraints d’utiliser des simulateurs de vol afin de devenir les pilotes d’avions de combat en lieu et place d’humains. L’expérience est sous la responsabilité du docteur Carroll (William Sadler), aidé par une chercheuse en psychologie Teri McDonald (Helen Hunt). Garrett ne tarde pas à découvrir que le projet X cache une autre expérience scientifique qui étudie le niveau de radiation mortelle que les primates peuvent endurer en cas de conflit nucléaire total. McDonald et Garret vont unir leurs forces pour tenter de sauver les chimpanzés de leur funeste destin et les mener à la liberté.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t \n\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\tPour caractériser les primates, Horner a recourt à toutes sortes de flûtes, dont le shakuhachi, et souligne leur nature espiègle dans une sorte de swing avec Chimp Rumble<\/em>. La partition présente un thème associé à Virgil qui résonne comme un appel à un retour à l’état sauvage. Il y a également un thème associé au vol, l’autre passion de Horner, et un thème d’amour utilisé autant pour Garrett et McDonald que pour Virgil et sa compagne Ginger mais aussi pour illustrer l’affection entre Garrett et Virgil. Pour désigner la menace nucléaire et les militaires, Horner reprend une idée déjà présente dans Aliens<\/strong><\/a> l’année précédente en citant un motif de cordes de l’Adagio du ballet Gayane d’Aram Kachaturian, morceau rendu célèbre par son utilisation de 2001, L’ODYSÉE DE L’ESPACE de Stanley Kubrick. Et on retrouve le fameux motif à quatre notes, cher au compositeur dès que la vie des chimpanzés est menacé<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t \n\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\tAprès être restée inédite pendant quinze ans, la partition de Projet X<\/strong> (Project X<\/strong><\/a>, 1987) avait été éditée pour le première fois dans le cadre du Varèse Sarabande CD Club, en 2002. Cette édition, limitée à 3 000 exemplaires avait été rapidement épuisée. Vingt-deux ans après la sortie du film, La-La Land a l’excellente initiative de proposer une réédition légèrement étendue et remasterisée d’après les bandes d’enregistrement d’origine, proposant une galette de plus de 79 minutes.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\tLes morceaux inédits, bien que ne totalisant que 4 minutes, apportent une plus-value au programme déjà édité en 2002. Si Lockrige and Simulator Room<\/em> est présenté dans sa version intégrale, gagnant une demi-minute, c’est bel et bien l’inédit The Phone Call and Top Brass<\/em> qui retient toute l’attention de l’auditeur. Sublime pièce de plus de 3 minutes, elle illustre la scène cruciale où Garrett décide de désobéir aux ordres après avoir été informé par téléphone que Virgil est appelé à être le prochain à recevoir des doses massives de radiations. Un motif mystérieux au piano est relayé par les cordes puis une fanfare accompagne l’arrivée de militaires venus assister à l’opération. Un morceau dramatique de toute beauté.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\tLa-La Land a fait appel à l’ingénieur du son et producteur Mike Matessino qui s’est occupé avec Neil S. Bulk de cette réédition au son plus clair et plus naturel. Le livret, richement illustré, est accompagné de notes de Jeff Bond détaillant la partition morceau par morceau. Le nouveau CD de la partition de Projet X<\/strong> est limité à 1 500 exemplaires.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n
