Ma carri&egrave;re a vraiment d&eacute;coll&eacute; avec Cocoon et An American Tail. Je suis entr&eacute; dans la tradition d&#39;Hollywood &agrave; ce moment l&agrave;&nbsp;&raquo;<\/em><span style=\"font-size:12px;\"><sup><em>1<\/em><\/sup><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\n\t\tJames Horner\n\t<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">A l&#39;origine, le film de science-fiction <strong>Cocoon<\/strong> devait &ecirc;tre dirig&eacute; par Robert Zemeckis mais celui-ci fut appel&eacute; par Steven Spielberg sur <strong>Retour vers le Futur, <\/strong>et donc remplac&eacute; par <a href=\"https:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/collaborations\/ron-howard\/\">Ron Howard<\/a> qui venait de terminer <strong>Splash<\/strong> avec Tom Hanks. C&#39;est la premi&egrave;re des sept collaborations entre le r&eacute;alisateur et James Horner. Leur partenariat donnera par la suite naissance &agrave; des partitions importantes comme <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/willow\"><strong>Willow<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/apollo-13\"><strong>Apollo 13<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/a-beautiful-mind\">A Beautiful Mind<\/a><\/strong>.<strong> <\/strong>Leur dernier projet commun, l&#39;excellent<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/the-missing\">The Missing <\/a><\/strong>remonte &agrave; 2003. Depuis Ron Howard s&#39;est tourn&eacute; vers Hans Zimmer pour la musique de ses films.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/images\/articles\/COCOON\/cocoon6.jpg\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">L&#39;histoire de <strong>Cocoon<\/strong> suit trois pensionnaires d&#39;une maison de retraite qui se rendent compte qu&#39;ils ont subitement recouvr&eacute; une nouvelle jeunesse suite &agrave; une baignade dans une piscine o&ugrave; sont entrepos&eacute;s des &oelig;ufs d&#39;origine extraterrestre. M&eacute;lange habile d&#39;&eacute;motion et de science-fiction, le film fut un succ&egrave;s public et aura ainsi droit &agrave; une suite beaucoup moins r&eacute;ussie nomm&eacute;e <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/cocoon-the-return\"><strong>Cocoon, le retour<\/strong><\/a>.<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/collaborations\/ron-howard\/\">Ron Howard<\/a> a choisi James Horner car il avait &laquo;&nbsp;<em>d&eacute;cel&eacute; l&#39;&eacute;motion et la sensibilit&eacute;<\/em>&nbsp;&raquo; <span style=\"font-size:12px;\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/span> dans les premi&egrave;res musiques de l&#39;artiste, qualit&eacute;s n&eacute;cessaires pour mettre en musique cette histoire. Il voyait aussi dans ce compositeur l&#39;image d&#39;un grand symphoniste dans laquelle il commen&ccedil;ait &agrave; &ecirc;tre enferm&eacute; avec <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/krull\"><strong>Krull<\/strong><\/a> et <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/brainstorm\"><strong>Brainstorm<\/strong><\/a>. La partition de <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/cocoon\"><strong>Cocoon<\/strong><\/a> qu&#39;il juge &laquo;&nbsp;<em>extr&ecirc;mement &eacute;mouvante<\/em>&nbsp;&raquo; <span style=\"font-size:12px;\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/span> allie donc &agrave; la fois l&#39;intime et le symphonique.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em>&laquo;&nbsp;Cocoon a chang&eacute; quelque chose en moi, d&eacute;clench&eacute; quelque chose, un certain type de passion et d&#39;&eacute;motion (&hellip;) la guitare, la harpe et le piano se suffissent &agrave; eux-m&ecirc;mes. J&#39;aime beaucoup cette partition.&nbsp;&raquo; <\/em><span style=\"font-size:12px;\"><sup><em>1<\/em><\/sup><\/span><\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\n\t\tJames Horner\n\t<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Cette partition s&#39;ouvre sur un th&egrave;me magique (<em>Through The Window) <\/em>interpr&eacute;t&eacute;e lentement au xylophone afin de cr&eacute;er une ambiance o&ugrave; se m&ecirc;le myst&egrave;re et f&eacute;erie. Ce th&egrave;me incarnera le merveilleux, le surnaturel tout au long du film, par exemple sous une forme dynamique au d&eacute;but du somptueux <em>Returning To Sea, <\/em>ou planante au milieu de l&#39;opulent <em>The Ascension (2&#39;43). <\/em><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">La partie centrale de l&#39;album est domin&eacute;e par un th&egrave;me bouleversant dont James Horner a le secret. Le compositeur a r&eacute;cemment d&eacute;clar&eacute; (<a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/hollywood-vienna-2013-international-film-music-symposium\/\">voir notre article<\/a>) vouloir rechercher des couleurs m&eacute;lancoliques &eacute;voquant le pass&eacute; &agrave; l&#39;aide de certains instruments qui sont la cl&eacute; pour ouvrir le c&oelig;ur. <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/cocoon\"><strong>Cocoon<\/strong><\/a> fut &agrave; l&#39;&eacute;poque le projet id&eacute;al pour d&eacute;velopper ces couleurs en ad&eacute;quation avec les sujets li&eacute;s &agrave; l&#39;histoire&nbsp;: la jeunesse perdue, la vieillesse, la maladie, les relations grands-parents et petits-enfants ou encore l&#39;amour jusqu&#39;&agrave; la mort.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">A l&#39;aide d&#39;une d&eacute;licate simplicit&eacute; dans l&#39;orchestration, James Horner a su mettre en musique ce th&egrave;me et nous offrir ainsi des passages v&eacute;ritablement &eacute;mouvants li&eacute;s notamment &agrave; la perte d&#39;un &ecirc;tre aim&eacute; : une guitare et un piano se joignent pour suivre la mort d&#39;une pensionnaire (<em>Rose&#39;s Death<\/em>), un hautbois et un cor accompagnent les derniers moments d&#39;un extraterrestre (<em>First Tears<\/em>) et reviennent s&#39;ajouter aux cordes pour les adieux entre un grand p&egrave;re et son petit fils (<em>Sad Goodbyes<\/em>). A l&#39;image de <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/testament\"><strong>Testament<\/strong><\/a> (1983) et <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/brainstorm\"><strong>Brainstorm<\/strong><\/a> (1983) qui l&#39;ont pr&eacute;c&eacute;d&eacute;, <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/cocoon\"><strong>Cocoon<\/strong><\/a> est un po&egrave;me d&#39;amour et de mort o&ugrave; la sensibilit&eacute; du compositeur s&#39;exprime pleinement.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/images\/articles\/COCOON\/cocoon2.jpg\" style=\"width: 700px; height: 379px; border-width: 2px; border-style: solid;\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Un dernier th&egrave;me cuivr&eacute; et majestueux se d&eacute;marque &eacute;galement de l&#39;ensemble de la partition. D&#39;abord annonc&eacute; par des notes puissantes aux trompettes lors de l&#39;arriv&eacute;e des Antariens sur Terre (<em>Through The Window &agrave; 1&#39;04)<\/em>, il revient dans <em>Returning To Sea <\/em>&agrave; 3&#39;29 quand ces derniers proposent aux humains de les accompagner. Puis il se d&eacute;ploie totalement lors des sc&egrave;nes finales qui annoncent le d&eacute;part de la Terre vers l&#39;espace (<em>The Chase<\/em>, <em>The Ascension).<\/em><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Toutefois, cette riche partition ne pourrait se r&eacute;sumer &agrave; ces trois th&egrave;mes car elle est parsem&eacute;e d&#39;une multitude de motifs notamment interpr&eacute;t&eacute;s au cor et regorge de petits d&eacute;tails qui incitent &agrave; multiplier les <\/span><span style=\"font-size:18px;\">&eacute;coutes ou &agrave; revoir le film pour en comprendre le sens.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Au del&agrave; de la th&eacute;matique et des orchestrations, il nous faut aussi &eacute;voquer un autre axe attachant de la partition&nbsp;: <\/span><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/images\/collaborations\/orchestrateurs\/may.jpg\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 157px; border-width: 2px; border-style: solid; margin: 5px 10px; float: left;\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:18px;\">le jazz\/swing des ann&eacute;es 30\/40. Cette musique symbolise la jeunesse retrouv&eacute;e des trois retrait&eacute;s car elle fait &eacute;cho &agrave; l&#39;&eacute;poque r&eacute;volue o&ugrave; ils &eacute;taient fringants, virils et en pleine possession de leurs moyens. Un anachronisme judicieux qui s&#39;int&egrave;gre parfaitement &agrave; l&#39;ambiance du long-m&eacute;trage. Ces passages furent orchestr&eacute;s par <a href=\"https:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/fr\/collaborations\/billy-may\/\">Billy May<\/a>, un sp&eacute;cialiste en la mati&egrave;re, arrangeur de certaines chansons de Frank Sinatra et Ella Fitzgerald mais &eacute;galement trompettiste avec Glenn Miller. A noter que cette ambiance jazzy sera encore plus d&eacute;velopp&eacute;e dans <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/cocoon-the-return\"><strong>Cocoon: The Return<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><strong>[divider]La nouvelle &eacute;dition[\/divider]<\/strong><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Le disque Polydor de 1985, dont la derni&egrave;re r&eacute;&eacute;dition date de 1997, regroupe l&#39;essentiel de la musique mais poss&egrave;de tout de m&ecirc;me certains d&eacute;fauts comme d&#39;imposer en milieu d&#39;&eacute;coute la chanson <em>Gravity<\/em>, ou encore de pr&eacute;senter les morceaux dans un d&eacute;sordre important&nbsp;: par exemple la deuxi&egrave;me piste (<em>Lovemaking<\/em>) est une sc&egrave;ne se situant au milieu du film, la troisi&egrave;me (<em>The Chase<\/em>) fait partie du final de l&#39;histoire&#8230; En r&eacute;sum&eacute;, seules l&#39;introduction <em>Through The Window<\/em> et les deux derni&egrave;res pistes <em>The Ascension<\/em> et <em>Theme From Cocoon<\/em> sont correctement plac&eacute;es sur le disque.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">L&#39;exp&eacute;rience propos&eacute;e par cette nouvelle &eacute;dition est donc totalement in&eacute;dite&nbsp;: l&#39;&eacute;coute de l&rsquo;int&eacute;gralit&eacute; de la musique dans l&#39;ordre chronologique du film produit une progression &eacute;motionnelle coh&eacute;rente et bouleversante. Ainsi, apr&egrave;s un premier tiers d&#39;album innocent et jazzy, le po&egrave;me d&#39;amour et de mort &eacute;voqu&eacute; pr&eacute;c&eacute;demment s&#39;&eacute;tend entre <em>A Relapse <\/em>et <em>Sad Goobyes <\/em>et livre un quart d&#39;heure musical m&eacute;lancolique et bouleversant qui terrasse l&#39;auditeur. Puis les vingt minutes finales virevoltantes, cuivr&eacute;es et majestueuses s&#39;enclenchent au son du palpitant <em>David Runs To The Boat<\/em>. Un constat simple et &eacute;vident s&#39;impose alors &agrave; l&#39;&eacute;coute des derni&egrave;res notes du magnifique final <em>Theme From Cocoon&nbsp;<\/em>: cette nouvelle &eacute;dition en plus de pr&eacute;senter une des plus touchantes musiques de son auteur, constitue une nouvelle preuve concr&egrave;te de son g&eacute;nie narratif.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/images\/articles\/COCOON\/cocoon3.jpg\" style=\"border-width: 2px; border-style: solid;\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Au total, ce sont 16 minutes in&eacute;dites qui nous sont propos&eacute;es&nbsp;:<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Apr&egrave;s le morceau introductif <em>Through The Window<\/em>, l&#39;album encha&icirc;ne tout d&#39;abord sur cinq nouveaux morceaux :<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em>Going To The Pool<\/em> d&eacute;bute sur une orchestration d&eacute;licate bas&eacute;e sur les harpes. Joe, l&#39;un des pensionnaires, est malade mais n&#39;ose pas l&#39;avouer &agrave; ses deux amis. A la mani&egrave;re de <em>Michael&#39;s Gift To Karen<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/brainstorm\"><strong>Brainstorm<\/strong><\/a>), toute la fragilit&eacute; de l&#39;existence est repr&eacute;sent&eacute;e dans ces petites secondes de musique. Les trois compagnons se rendent &agrave; la piscine dans la r&eacute;sidence voisine inhabit&eacute;e. L&#39;ambiance jazz\/swing d&eacute;bute et symbolise toute l&#39;espi&egrave;glerie retrouv&eacute;e chez ces personnes &acirc;g&eacute;es lors de cette petite violation de propri&eacute;t&eacute;. Puis, les harpes reviennent pour conclure le morceau lorsqu&#39;un des intrus s&#39;allongent sur un matelas gonflable au milieu de la piscine et profite du moment pr&eacute;sent. La simplicit&eacute; de l&#39;orchestration illustre une nouvelle fois &agrave; merveille ce petit instant de vie.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Dans <em>Pool Is Closed<\/em>, les harpes, la basse et le saxophone semblent vouloir r&eacute;it&eacute;rer l&#39;ambiance du morceau pr&eacute;c&eacute;dent, tout comme la bande de retrait&eacute;s qui se dirige une nouvelle fois vers la piscine. Mais ici la phrase musicale jazzy est stopp&eacute;e dans son &eacute;lan &agrave; 0&#39;33. La petite sortie quotidienne est compromise par la pr&eacute;sence dans la propri&eacute;t&eacute; d&#39;un agent immobilier et de futurs locataires qui s&#39;av&egrave;rent &ecirc;tre les Antariens sous une enveloppe humaine. A 0&#39;54, l&#39;orchestre s&#39;&eacute;lance, les cordes virevoltent et les trompettes entonnent un motif entra&icirc;nant pour suivre le bateau lou&eacute; par les extraterrestres, lanc&eacute; &agrave; pleine vitesse vers le lieu de plong&eacute;e o&ugrave; se trouvent les cocons. Une fl&ucirc;te extraite de <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/krull\"><strong>Krull<\/strong><\/a> et un solo de cor malicieux que nous retrouverons vingt ans plus tard dans <a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discographie\/bobby-jones-stroke-of-genius\"><strong>Bobby Jones Stroke Of Genius<\/strong><\/a> accompagnent l&#39;&eacute;tude d&#39;une carte sous-marine.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/images\/articles\/COCOON\/cocoon5.jpg\" style=\"width: 699px; height: 378px; border-width: 2px; border-style: solid;\" \/><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em>Mysterious Dive<\/em> d&eacute;bute sur une phrase descendante des cordes qui nous entra&icirc;ne vers les fonds sous-marins. S&#39;instaure alors une ambiance myst&eacute;rieuse d&#39;o&ugrave; &eacute;mergera un superbe solo de cor (0&#39;40) &eacute;vocation de l&#39;Atlantide, cit&eacute;e engloutie &agrave; quelques encablures de la Floride, o&ugrave; reposent depuis 10 000 ans les cocons.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Deux coups de batterie nous ram&egrave;nent brusquement &agrave; la r&eacute;alit&eacute; et &agrave; la maison de retraite pour le tr&egrave;s jazzy <em>Seduction\/Let&rsquo;s Go<\/em>. Le tempo assez lent de la premi&egrave;re minute du morceau accompagne les trois retrait&eacute;s, qui font profiter &agrave; leurs &eacute;pouses des effets stimulants provoqu&eacute;s par la premi&egrave;re baignade aupr&egrave;s des cocons. Les vertus &eacute;nergisantes de ce bain de jouvence s&#39;expriment pleinement via l&#39;acc&eacute;l&eacute;ration du rythme &agrave; partir de 0&#39;50.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Enfin le tr&egrave;s court <em>Unveiling<\/em> se d&eacute;roule lors de la sc&egrave;ne o&ugrave; Jack le capitaine du bateau d&eacute;couvre la v&eacute;ritable identit&eacute; de ses passagers. James Horner y esquisse les motifs et les sonorit&eacute;s angoissantes qui illustreront ult&eacute;rieurement les apparitions des extraterrestres &agrave; visage d&eacute;couvert (<em>Discovered In The Poolhouse<\/em>,<em> The Lovemaking<\/em>).<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\">Puis les trois autres morceaux in&eacute;dits s&rsquo;intercalent entre des passages d&eacute;j&agrave; connus.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em>A Relapse <\/em>offre une tr&egrave;s belle variation du th&egrave;me m&eacute;lancolique.
