\n\t\tAprès Varese Sarabande en 1986 sur LP et CD puis Kritzerland Records en 2011 qui proposait deux présentations de la partition, c'est au tour d'Intrada de lancer une édition de Gorky Park<\/strong><\/a> (1983). Pourquoi ? Tout simplement car le perfectionnisme des artisans d'Intrada, Roger Feigelson et Douglass Fake les a amenés à rechercher les quelques morceaux inédits et une qualité sonore stéréophonique sur l'intégralité du disque, ce qui n'était pas le cas sur les précédentes éditions.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\tTo present entire score in true stereo for first time, courtesy MGM, Intrada went back to original session masters made by Dan Wallin at Record Plant Recording Studios on 2" 24-track tape, then subsequently mixed by Wallin down to 1\/2" multi-track stereo, then finally to brand new two-track stereo mixes for our CD. Working with these mixes, we discovered Horner had scored several cues with alternate versions, all of which are included as "extras" in this CD. Other new highlights include striking motif for "Andreev", who recreates murder victim's faces, exciting "Pasha And Golodkin Shot", fiercely rhythmic "Setting Up The Deal" plus several others. Extra treat! Working with multi-tracks allows us to present all cues containing Tchaikovsky overdubs in both familiar final versions plus in Horner score-only versions for interesting study in contrasts. Finally, Horner wrote cocktail piano source cue ("Stockholm Salted Peanuts") for late sequence in picture and nostalgic, bittersweet piece appears as closing extra to wrap generous-length CD.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\tGorky Park<\/strong><\/a> marque la première collaboration du compositeur avec le réalisateur Michael Apted<\/a>, qu'il retrouvera ensuite au début des années 90 avec Class Action<\/strong><\/a> et Thunderheart<\/strong><\/a>. Adaptation d'un roman de Martin Cruz Smith, le film fut tourné à Helsinki et Stockholm mais l'intrigue se déroule en Russie au cours d'une enquête policière. Trois cadavres défigurés gisent à Gorky Park, en plein cœur de la ville. L'inspecteur Renko mène l'enquête et ses investigations le conduiront vers les hautes sphères du pouvoir soviétique.
\n\t\tAu début des années 1980, James Horner n'avait que quelques années d'ancienneté en tant que compositeur pour le cinéma mais il écrivait déjà des musiques solides et audacieuses. Il suffit d'écouter les autres projets de cette prolifique année 1983 pour s'en convaincre. A l'image de partitions comme Krull<\/strong><\/a>, Brainstorm<\/strong><\/a> et Testament<\/strong><\/a>, Gorky Park<\/strong><\/a> est unes des plus ferventes représentantes du style d'écriture du compositeur à cette époque.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n\tLe Main Title accompagne les futures victimes en train de patiner joyeusement au son de deux pièces de Tchaïkovski (Le lac des cygnes<\/em> et L'Ouverture 1812<\/em>) diffusées par le système audio du parc. James Horner crée le malaise en interrompant de façon dissonante et menaçante ces deux classiques de la musique russe avec des accords de piano, des carillons, une harpe, les synthétiseurs et des sons percussifs produits par les cordes (slapping).<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\t\"\"<\/span>La partition mêle habilement ambiances morbides <\/span>(Faceless Bodies<\/em>, la partie centrale de The Sable Shed<\/em>) qui seront reprises dans Aliens<\/strong><\/a> (1986) et filatures rythmées par des trombones rugissants (Following Kirwill<\/em>, Following KGB<\/em>). Notez au passage deux ans avant que Sting se l'approprie dans Russians<\/em>, la variation de la mélodie Romance<\/em> (Lieutenant Kijé<\/strong>) de Sergueï Prokofiev dans la deuxième partie de Following Kirwill<\/em>.
\n\tLe romantisme est représenté par les morceaux Irina’s Theme<\/em>, Arkady and Irina<\/em>, Airport Farewell<\/em> qui développent le très beau thème d'amour au son d'une harpe et d'un cymbalum. L'association forme une texture sonore cristalline à l'image du regard lumineux de la sublime Joanna Pacu\u0142a. Le cor apporte un peu de chaleur au thème lors de la séparation des deux personnages principaux dans <\/i>Airport Farewell<\/em>.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n\t\tDe façon simpliste certains résumeront Gorky Park<\/strong><\/a> à un mélange dissonant d'éléments synthétiques et percussifs, propre à un orientation musicale déjà entendue l'année précédente dans 48 Hours et qui sera développée plus tard dans Commando<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>et Red Heat<\/strong><\/a>. Mais ils auront tort d’omettre les autres facettes de cette partition qui sait revêtir des couleurs plus orchestrales et profondes.
\n\t\tMerci Intrada de nous donner une nouvelle opportunité d’apprécier cette musique à sa juste valeur.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n
