ET ANOTHER 48 HRS.."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">Le label Intrada ouvre cette ann&eacute;e 2022 avec de nouvelles &eacute;ditions de <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discography\/48-hrs\/\">48 Hrs.<\/a><\/strong> (1982) et <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/discography\/another-48-hrs\/\">Another 48 Hrs.<\/a><\/strong> (1990), les deux films de Walter Hill mettant en sc&egrave;nes les aventures de l&rsquo;inspecteur de police Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) et de Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy). Pour les univers urbains du r&eacute;alisateur, le compositeur d&eacute;veloppa une cohabitation d&rsquo;instruments issus du rock, du jazz, de l&rsquo;&eacute;lectronique et du classique. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">&laquo; James &eacute;tait tr&egrave;s en avance sur la combinaison de l&#039;orchestration et de l&#039;&eacute;lectronique. Ses partitions &eacute;taient tr&egrave;s sp&eacute;ciales de cette fa&ccedil;on,&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;dit Walter Hill dans une interview exclusive pour notre livre sur James Horner en cours d&rsquo;&eacute;criture. &laquo; Il avait l&#039;habitude de diviser ces choses en lignes tr&egrave;s claires, et il a fait tomber beaucoup de ces lignes, et a bris&eacute; les barri&egrave;res. Cela lui a donn&eacute; un son tr&egrave;s unique..&nbsp;&raquo; <\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">Certaines id&eacute;es et couleurs invent&eacute;es s&rsquo;entendront encore des ann&eacute;es plus tard dans l&rsquo;&oelig;uvre du compositeur. Par exemple la figure r&eacute;currente jou&eacute;e par les percussions jama&iuml;caines reviendra en 1994 dans <strong>Clear and Present Danger<\/strong> ou encore en 2001 dans <strong>Enemy at the Gates<\/strong>.<br \/>\n\t&Agrave; premi&egrave;re vue, ces nouvelles &eacute;ditions pouvaient sembler facultatives. Intrada avait d&eacute;j&agrave; propos&eacute; en 2011 une &eacute;dition de 48 Hrs. pr&eacute;sentant l&rsquo;essentiel de la musique, et les quatre morceaux de l&rsquo;album <strong>Another 48 Hrs<\/strong>. sorti en 1990 ne donnaient pas forc&eacute;ment envie d&rsquo;en entendre plus, la faute &agrave; un manque de respiration entre deux longs morceaux d&rsquo;action de sept et cinq minutes.<br \/>\n\tMais apr&egrave;s l&rsquo;&eacute;coute, le constat est simple : Intrada peut &ecirc;tre fier de ces nouvelles &eacute;ditions qui permettent de red&eacute;couvrir le travail de James Horner avec un regard neuf.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/48hrs_cd.jpg\" style=\"height: 264px;width: 350px\" \/><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<br \/>\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">[divider]48 Hrs.[\/divider]<br \/>\n\tLe &laquo;&nbsp;Main Title (Alternate) propose des couleurs rythmiques et un jeu de basse diff&eacute;rents. Le long solo improvis&eacute; de saxophone est compl&egrave;tement diff&eacute;rent entre les deux versions de &laquo;&nbsp;Subway Station &raquo; et &laquo;&nbsp;Luther&rsquo;s Bus&nbsp; (Alternate)&nbsp;&raquo; pr&eacute;sente un mixage diff&eacute;rent du saxophone.<br \/>\n\tEnfin, le gros atout de cette nouvelle &eacute;dition de <strong>48Hrs.<\/strong> est sa qualit&eacute; sonore exceptionnelle. Paramount Pictures a pu retrouver les mixages st&eacute;r&eacute;o originaux et fournir &agrave; Intrada des transferts haute r&eacute;solution de chaque bobine. Comme l&rsquo;explique le producteur Douglass Fake dans le booklet (ces commentaires sont toujours &eacute;clairants sur les coulisses), ces nouvelles bobines ont permis d&#039;&eacute;quilibrer correctement le canal central et le jeu des cuivres entre la gauche et la droite. Le son est d&rsquo;une clart&eacute; saisissante!<\/p>\n<p>\t[divider]Another 48 Hrs.[\/divider]<br \/>\n\tPour <strong>Another 48 Hrs.<\/strong>, James Horner respecte l&rsquo;ADN de <strong>48 Hrs<\/strong>., sa th&eacute;matique comme son instrumentation. La basse &eacute;lectrique, les bo&icirc;tes &agrave; rythmes, le piano, les steel drums, le saxophone et les cuivres font leur retour, mais la nouveaut&eacute; majeure est le recours au shakuhachi, cette fl&ucirc;te de bambou, lointaine cousine japonaise de la fl&ucirc;te de pan, pour illustrer &agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;cran les m&eacute;chants de ce second opus et au-del&agrave;, la menace qui p&egrave;se sur le personnage de Jack qui risque ici de perdre son insigne.<br \/>\n\tL&rsquo;album de 1990 proposait 19 minutes et 46 secondes de la musique de James Horner r&eacute;parties en quatre morceaux : &laquo;&nbsp;The Courthouse&nbsp;&raquo; (3:18), &laquo;&nbsp;Main Title from Another 48 Hrs.&nbsp;&raquo; (4:11), &laquo;&nbsp;King Mei Shootout&nbsp;&raquo; (7:35) et &laquo;&nbsp;Birdcage Battle&nbsp;&raquo; (4:42). La nouvelle &eacute;dition de 2022 propose une&nbsp; pr&eacute;sentation avec 27 minutes suppl&eacute;mentaires! &Agrave; cela s&rsquo;ajoutent sept minutes r&eacute;parties sur quatre titres bonus, dont la version d&eacute;j&agrave; connue de &laquo;&nbsp;The Courthouse&nbsp;&raquo; plus courte de 90 secondes par rapport &agrave; sa version alternative int&eacute;gr&eacute;e dans la pr&eacute;sentation du score.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">&nbsp;&gt; Une question se pose naturellement : ces 27 minutes sont-elles de qualit&eacute; ?\/&gt; Depuis trois d&eacute;cennies, il &eacute;tait possible de se faire une premi&egrave;re opinion en &eacute;coutant les morceaux in&eacute;dits dans le film, mais en comparant le film et l&rsquo;&eacute;dition de 2022, il s&rsquo;av&egrave;re que le score a &eacute;t&eacute; &eacute;norm&eacute;ment coup&eacute; &agrave; cause de grosses modifications du film avant sa sortie. La version originale&nbsp; mont&eacute;e par Walter Hill durait 145 minutes. James Horner a travaill&eacute; sur un montage r&eacute;duit &agrave; 120 minutes. Mais une semaine avant la sortie du film, la Paramount a enlev&eacute; 25 nouvelles minutes! De plus &agrave; trois moments du film, quand Reggie reprend connaissance apr&egrave;s l&rsquo;accident de bus, quand Jack retire les affaires de son bureau et lors de la fusillade finale, des morceaux du premier score de 1982 sont utilis&eacute;s. Donc en plus d&rsquo;offrir de nombreux morceaux absents sur le premier album, l&rsquo;&eacute;quipe d&rsquo;Intrada nous fait d&eacute;couvrir &agrave; travers cette nouvelle &eacute;dition une grande quantit&eacute; de musique compl&egrave;tement in&eacute;dite, car absente du film.<br \/>\n\tIl est parfois reproch&eacute; &agrave; certaines &eacute;ditions &eacute;tendues de proposer peu de musique suppl&eacute;mentaire et\/ou de la musique qui peut &ecirc;tre &eacute;cout&eacute;e dans le film ou sur une piste isol&eacute;e de DVD. Cette &eacute;dition d&rsquo;Another 48Hrs. n&rsquo;a pas ses d&eacute;fauts.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">Voici une infographie pour prendre conscience de la plus-value de cette &eacute;dition.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<div>\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"imgcollabo\" src=\"http:\/\/jameshorner-filmmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/48hrs-timing.jpg\" style=\"width: 1280px;height: 1569px\" \/><br \/>\n\t\tLes morceaux de l&rsquo;album de 1990 sont sur la colonne de gauche. Au centre, ceux de la nouvelle &eacute;dition. &Agrave; droite les morceaux pr&eacute;sents dans le film et la dur&eacute;e durant laquelle ils peuvent &ecirc;tre entendus.<br \/>\n\t\tPar exemple le morceau &laquo;&nbsp;Business at Barnstormer&#039;s Bar&nbsp;&raquo; est absent du film, le morceau &laquo;&nbsp;Reggie Gets Out&nbsp;&raquo; est entendu 20 secondes<br \/>\n\t\tAinsi, en cumulant les diff&eacute;rences de dur&eacute;e entre le film et l&rsquo;album de 2022, le r&eacute;sultat donne 17 minutes n&rsquo;apparaissant pas dans le film. L&rsquo; existence de ces 17 minutes &eacute;tait donc insoup&ccedil;onn&eacute;e!<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\t&nbsp;\n\t<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">Revenons donc &agrave; la question : ces 27 minutes (dont 17 compl&egrave;tement in&eacute;dites) sont-elles de qualit&eacute;? La r&eacute;ponse est oui. Et m&ecirc;me un grand OUI!<br \/>\n\t\tVoici une petite liste non exhaustive des nouveaut&eacute;s : &#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;Do you know?&nbsp;&raquo; reprend la m&ecirc;me formule &eacute;nergique que le passage de la fusillade dans l&rsquo;h&ocirc;tel du premier &eacute;pisode.<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;Business At Barnstormer&#039;s Bar&nbsp;&raquo; et &laquo;&nbsp;Reggie Gets Out&nbsp;&raquo; sont deux petits bijoux d&rsquo;ambiance. Des pizz de contrebasses (&laquo;&nbsp;double bass pizz&nbsp;&raquo; en anglais) rythment le premier. Des baguettes en bois frapp&eacute;es et une basse rythment le second. Diff&eacute;rents instruments se succ&egrave;dent sur ces bases rythmiques : steel drums, saxophone, EWI, basse, shakuhachi, xylophone&hellip;<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;Diner Ambush&nbsp;&raquo; renvoie tout d&rsquo;abord &agrave; la musique de la filature du premier film mais se termine sur une musique stressante (2:26) absente du film qui aurait ajout&eacute; une violence folle &agrave; la sc&egrave;ne o&ugrave; un voyou arm&eacute; s&rsquo;approche dans le dos de Jack.<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;Prison Bus Attack&nbsp;&raquo; est un morceau d&rsquo;action excitant commen&ccedil;ant sur les quatre notes du danger au saxophone. Le shakuhachi intervient &agrave; chaque balle tir&eacute;e, &agrave; chaque vitre bris&eacute;e&hellip; &Ccedil;a d&eacute;coiffe!&nbsp; &nbsp;<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;Computer Profile&nbsp;&raquo; et &laquo;&nbsp;Backwards Drive&nbsp;&raquo; proposent une parenth&egrave;se rafra&icirc;chissante sur une rythmique autour des Steel Drums, la guitare, la basse et le piano &eacute;lectrique.<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; Les couleurs graves (trombones, tuba, violoncelles et contrebasses) dans la seconde partie de &laquo;&nbsp;Phone Booth&nbsp;&raquo; annoncent les moments les plus sombres de <strong>Clear and Present Danger<\/strong><br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; Le tr&egrave;s court &laquo;&nbsp;Price Killing&nbsp;&raquo; renvoie aux moments les plus angoissants d&rsquo;<strong>Aliens<\/strong>, le shakuhachi en plus.<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; &laquo;&nbsp;The Courthouse&nbsp;&raquo; est rallong&eacute; d&rsquo;une grosse minute au d&eacute;but du morceau. Cette nouvelle version accentue le sentiment d&rsquo;acc&eacute;l&eacute;ration et de course contre le temps.<br \/>\n\t\t&#8211; Les deux versions de &laquo;&nbsp;Dirty Cop&nbsp;&raquo; proposent une rythmique in&eacute;dite qui est reprise dans &laquo;&nbsp;Cruising The Birdcage&nbsp;&raquo;.<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\t<br \/>\n\t\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">D&rsquo;une mani&egrave;re g&eacute;n&eacute;rale, le score tout en rappelant le premier opus impressionne par l&rsquo;&eacute;criture plus mature. James Horner prolonge l&rsquo;univers musical du premier film, il &eacute;tend sa palette avec de nouveaux sons qui n&rsquo;&eacute;taient pas pr&eacute;sents en 1982, il accentue les moments de dissonance pour mieux exprimer le caract&egrave;re borderline de Jack, oblig&eacute; de jouer le tout pour le tout pour sauver sa carri&egrave;re de policier, mais aussi sa vie et celle de Reggie. Le recours &agrave; une section de cordes intensifie aussi la dramaturgie, comme ces &eacute;lans au c&oelig;ur de&nbsp; &laquo;&nbsp;Prison Bus Attack&nbsp;&raquo;, &laquo;&nbsp;The Courthouse&nbsp;&raquo; ou la nappe de cordes qui sous-tend &laquo;&nbsp;Birdcage Battle&nbsp;&raquo;. La qualit&eacute; sonore rend justice &agrave; la fid&eacute;lit&eacute; des masters digitaux mix&eacute;s par Shawn Murphy et masteris&eacute;s par Douglass Fake.<br \/>\n\t\tCette &eacute;dition inattendue du score complet de Another 48 Hrs. constitue donc une tr&egrave;s agr&eacute;able d&eacute;couverte chaudement recommand&eacute;e. Le montage final du film et l&rsquo;album de 1990 ne rendaient finalement pas justice au travail remarquable du compositeur pour son dernier film avec Walter Hill.
