David Newman (born in Los Angeles, California on March 11, 1954) is an American composer and conductor, and is noted especially for his film scores.
In a career spanning forty years, Newman has composed music for 100 feature films. His music for the film ‘Anastasia’ (1997) earned him an Academy Award nomination for the score. He composed films such as The War of the Roses in 1989, Other People's Money in 1991, Hoffa  in 1992, Matilda in 1996 and Galaxy Quest in 1999. His music for the animated film Ice age (2002) earned him an Award nomination for Best Music in an Animated Feature Production. He was elected as president of The Film Music Society in February 2007.
David Newman was also  honored with the Richard Kirk award at the annual BMI Film & Television Awards on May 21, 2009 (an award given to a composer who made remarkable contributions to film and television music).
