![]() ![]() JAMES HORNER - FIVE YEARS AFTERExactly five years have gone by since James Horner passed away. On a Monday, like today. Five years ago. That's both a lot and so little. The shock was so great; the memory of that sad day is forever seared into our consciousness and will remain so despite the passage of time. Even though we busy ourselves on our various projects, today we wanted to pay tribute to James. We reached out to his friends, his peers, his collaborators and his family and asked them to share their memories and thoughts. We are proud to present a 20-minute video with all AMERICAN YOUTH SYMPHONY HONORS JAMES HORNEROn Saturday, November 13, the film Apollo 13 was screened with an orchestra performing James Horner's music live to picture. This Film Concerts Live entry was premiered in July 2018 with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Other orchestras then began programming this concert, first with the City Light Symphony Orchestra of Luzern last May, following with dates already planned for 2020 in the United States and Europe. This type of event, which brings together a film projected on a large screen and an orchestra, has been very popular in recent years. This makes it possible to introduce variety to the orchestras' HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA CONCERT BLU-RAY RELEASED BY VARESE SARABANDEWhen we published our 2013 article on the James Horner Symposium in Vienna, our readers asked us to provide the entire video of the event. We chose not to do so out of respect for the event organizers and also out of hope that a publisher would one day release the complete concert and event. That day has finally arrived! Varese Sarabande president Robert Townson has announced such a release via Facebook: HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER Varèse Sarabande Blu-ray Coming June, 2016 "On June 22 it will have been one year since we lost James Horner in a tragic plane crash. I knew nothing about scoring movies until I started working on student films and low-budget films. So while I VIENNA 2013: THE CONCERT VIDEOSFor several weeks, Hollywood in Vienna will be publishing official videos of the concert held on Friday, October 4, 2013. In this article, we will aggregate those videos featuring James Horner's scores and we will continue to update it with new content as it becomes available. And finally, we present our own video of James Horner addressing the audience at Thursday night's concert. VIENNA 2013: JAMES HORNER RECEIVES THE MAX STEINER AWARDHere is a small return on James Horner's activities in Vienna as part of the Hollywood in Vienna festival. On Wednesday he attended the rehearsals of the concert conducted by David Newman before going to the Max Reinhardt Seminar where he answered to questions from Robert Townson and from the public for two hours. The Thursday morning was devoted to interviews in the Sofitel Hotel. On Thursday evening during the first concert he was seen at the balcony taking pictures of the show. Then he appeared on stage to give a speech at the end of the part that was dedicated to VIENNA 2013: REVIEW OF THE CONCERTSThe exceptionality of the two concerts at the Hollywood In Vienna Festival 2013 is widely recognized. Back in February we had detailed the elements that would make the two evenings at the prestigious Wiener Konzerthaus events not to be missed (see our article). The main argument was the coming of James Horner. At that time it was even announced that he would conduct the orchestra with David Newman. But finally on October 3 and 4, only Alfred Newman's son conducted the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien). Why this withdrawal of James Horner? As he explained during the Symposium, James HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE PROGRAMA month before the event, things become clearer and below is the 3-day program prepared by the Hollywood in Vienna team. The 1,840 seats in the Großer Saal (great hall) of the prestigious Konzerthaus will then be occupied on that night, which shows how appealing the Hollywood film music can be, how popular composer James Horner is and how famous this annual event has become.
