LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES FLIES AGAIN WITH INTRADA CD RELEASE

Less than two years after the original iTunes release, Living in the Age of Airplanes sees its physical CD premiere, courtesy of Intrada. This album features the same material as the original 2016 release. Although it is not in expanded form (some brief moments of the score remain unreleased, including a solo piano segment that accompanies a silent film-style sequence), it features new liner notes from director/producer Brian J. Terwilliger. “The experience of working with James and his team was one of the highlights of making this film, and of my career.” –Brian J. Terwilliger This score has quickly become a beloved favorite[...]

[EXCLUSIVE] A PHYSICAL RELEASE FOR LIVING IN THE AGE OF THE AIRPLANES!

During our interview in October 2016 with director Brian Terwilliger, he had discussed with us a possible physical edition of James Horner’s music for the documentary Living in the Age of Airplanes. JHFM : You did mention on Facebook the possibility that you’re considering a physical release. What’s necessary to make that happen? BT: I’m talking to a couple record labels that are very interested in doing it. They believe the demand is there, for sure. I’ve wondered if there was. Because, doing a physical release, as you know, is a much more complicated thing. Creating a physical product, designing a physical[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES: EXCLUSIVE REVIEW

If there is one word that can stand out from listening to Living in the Age of Airplanes, it's diversity! Indeed, there's a great variety of styles to each piece of music, from tribal to symphonic and even a salsa flavor! As the film encompasses everything aviation has blessed the world with, through eighteen countries and all seven continents – literally worldwide – the music had to touch on every facet of each location and time and does so with a fluidity and each disparate style fits into a cohesive whole....well, that salsa cue stands out a little, but it[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES: INTERVIEW WITH BRIAN TERWILLIGER

JHFM chats with filmmaker Brian Terwilliger on the eve of the home media release of his documentary and soundtrack album.   JHFM: Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us today. The charter of the James Horner Film Music Association, now that he’s no longer with us, is to celebrate and preserve the legacy of James Horner and his music. We’re grateful that you could chat with us about your experience working with him on one of his last projects. BT: My pleasure.`   JHFM: Your first film, One Six Right, was about the romance of flight and in some ways[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

A little more than two years have passed between learning of James Horner's involvement with Living In The Age of Airplanes and actually having an opportunity to listen to his score. In recent days we have previewed the film and its bonus features to be released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on October 25. The James Horner soundtrack album will be released worldwide on iTunes the same day. In this article we will share with you our first[...]

SIMON FRANGLEN: "THERE’S NOT A DAY THAT I DON’T THINK OF JAMES."

I still remember very well my first and only encounter with Simon Franglen. It was just before the Titanic Live concert in London. Throughout the afternoon during rehearsals I had seen him working alongside James Horner. The depth of their collaboration was evident. On many occasions, he had climbed the railings of the concert hall to access the back of the orchestra to ensure that everything was done properly with the synthesizers. A small detail that shows the perfectionism and professionalism of a musician. Minutes before the concert, while we each waited for friends in front of the Royal Albert hall, I[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES: ANALYSIS OF THE EXCERPTS

Since the publication of the second trailer of Living in the Age of Airplanes in March 2015, which revealed the first 90 seconds of the music of James Horner, we waited with growing impatience to hear more. Being unable to go to one of the fifty theatres in the world that show or showed this documentary on aviation, we were on the lookout for the scheduled announcement of the release of the Blu-ray / DVD and of the soundtrack. The presence of musical excerpts to accompany this announcement was a nice surprise. The duration of the documentary is 47 minutes, we can[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES WORLD PREMIERE

The world premiere for the National Geographic documentary, Living in the Age of Airplanes, was held about 30,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean aboard an Emirates flight on a luxurious Airbus A380 that departed from and returned a few hours later to LAX on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 8, 2015.  In this clip, Andrew Freud takes a moment during the flight to chat with the director, Brian Terwilliger and the doc’s composer, James Horner.     In this interview, Horner reveals that he is an “airplane fanatic” and that he often checks to see if he can be involved with films[...]

LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES, THE NEW TRAILER
